Welcome Parents!
We are so happy to welcome you to Mountain View Montessori! We are looking forward to having a productive partnership with MVM parents and families. It is recognized that to be successful, our children need support from both home and school.
We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that they attend school daily, arrive on time and are ready for the day’s activities.
To maintain a balanced partnership, we ask that you please read your parent handbook for all of MVM’s policies and procedures.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the office. In addition, we have provided you with a list of important items that you will need to know about our programs.
Arrival and Dismissal
The school day starts at 9am and ends at 3pm every day. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early if possible. This will allow your child time to settle in their classroom before the day starts.
If you arrive after 9am, we ask that you stay in your car with your child until a teacher is available to greet you. Please be aware that this could take up to 30 minutes. Call or email the office if your child is running late or will be absent. There is a 15 minute grace period for all programs during the morning, midday and afternoon drop off/pickups. There is no grace period for 6:00pm pickup.
At this time, pickup and drop off will be outside the front door. A staff member will help your child when entering or exiting the building. Please sign in and out your child everyday using the Procare App on your phone. You are welcome to use the front office kiosk as well.
Home and School Communication
We are pleased to be in partnership with you for the benefit of your children and their education. We look forward to having an open and healthy line of communication.
We will be holding Parent-Teacher Conferences twice a year and if you need any additional time to speak with the teachers throughout the school year, the office would be more than happy to help you schedule that.
Every Friday we will have parent mailboxes outside the front door. Please make sure to check it for essential information.
Occurrence reports: Reports for any injuries or incidents will be given to you anytime there is a noticeable bump, bruise, or scrape. We will always call in the case of an allergic reaction, head bump, or emergency.
Supplies and Suggestions
Sunscreen
Please bring your child in with sunscreen on. Staff will re-apply in the afternoon. We ask that you bring in a spray and roll on sunscreen in a gallon sized ziplock bag.
Water Bottle (Bring in daily)
Change of Clothes
We will need 2 complete sets of clothes (shirt, pants/shorts, underwear/diapers, pair of socks). Please make sure clothes are periodically replaced to be seasonally appropriate.
Wipes/Diaper Creams
This is for the 2-4 Pinon Pine classroom. If needed please fill out a medication form to allow staff to apply the creams.
Nap Blanket
Please bring in a light blanket that will fit in a gallon sized ziploc bag. This is only for those that nap.
Lunch & Snacks
Children need to bring in a healthy morning snack and nutritious lunch. If your child is staying for aftercare, they will need an additional snack for the afternoon. We ask that children refrain from bringing in candy, juice or soda. Also, limit choices to not overwhelm your child.
We will have pizza every Friday. The cost for the month is $20.
Any child who is interested can participate.
Please make sure ALL your child’s belongings are labeled with their name. This includes the ziploc bags that the items are in. This is a state requirement.
Help Me To Do It Myself
As part of Montessori Education, students are learning to do things for themselves. This includes self-care at lunch. Your child gets their own lunchbox, takes out (prepares) their lunch and then cleans up after himself. You can help your child be successful at school by packing items that are easy to open and easy to clean up after. Children can get frustrated when they can’t open their lunch container, if there are too many crumbs, or when it takes too long to pick up all of their spaghetti noodles off the floor.
If you would like your child to have warm food at lunch, please prepare it in the morning and put it in a thermos to keep it warm. A microwave will be unavailable to use for heating students’ food. We also have only 30 minutes to eat and clean up.
Please remember to label everything in your child’s lunchbox (except food) with their name or initials. When these items go astray, it is the only way to get it back to the person it belongs to.
Your child should also be learning to take off and hang up their own jackets/lunchboxes during afternoon pick-ups and morning drop-offs. Give your child enough time to complete each task (Lots of patience is necessary). Encourage your child at home as well as at school to be independent with even the smallest of tasks. This will give them the confidence to try new things on their own, helping them grow their self-esteem and independence for a lifetime.
Allergies and Medication
At MVM, we are a PEANUT FREE school. Remember to pack healthy snacks and lunches that DO NOT include any peanuts or peanut products. MVM must be informed at all times of your child’s known allergies including food, animals, etc. You can fill out an updated Health History form on our website or grab one from the office.
A medication form will need to be filled out for over the counter medications. Any prescribed medicines will need a physician's note as well. We will need the medication to come to school in its original container and/or box.
These are state requirements that we follow.
Please do not leave medications in your child’s backpack. Hand it to a staff member so we can account for it.
Illnesses
For the consideration of others, please do not bring your child to school when they are showing signs of illness. Your child needs to be healthy enough to fully participate in regular school activities.
If your child does become ill at school, we ask that you pick up your child within 30 minutes of the phone call. Please make sure your emergency contact information is up to date.
We currently follow CDC guidelines regarding the Covid-19 protocols.
Tuition and Pizza
Tuition payments are due on the 1st of the month and will be considered late after the 5th. A $50.00 late fee will be charged to payments brought in after the 5th. We accept online ACH payments on the Procare App and cashier or personal checks for tuition.
We offer a Pizza punch card. The cost is $20 cash. We will be ordering from Papa Johns and students will have a fresh fruit/veggie for a side as well. Teachers will be given punch cards for students that have paid. Once a punch card is done, we will send it home to see if you would like to purchase a new one. Pizza Friday’s are optional.
Schedule Changes
If your child needs to change their schedule, you may fill out a schedule change request form. They can be found online on our website or you can pick one up in the office. Please keep in mind the programs and what schedules we offer. In addition, we would need the form returned no later than one month prior to the requested schedule change date.
Schedule changes must be approved by the office and are subject to availability.
Closures and Delays
MVM follows the APS weather closures. If there is a 2-hour delay, there will be no before care or half day program. We will open at 11:00am. All morning work time will be cancelled. Please watch the local news broadcast for school closings and delays.
MVM has certain Teacher In-Service days that do not coincide with APS schedule. There are also Holidays that APS observes but MVM does not.
Please refer to MVM’s School Calendar for Holidays and Teacher In-Service school closures.
Parent Tip
Develop a quick goodbye ritual.
Rituals are reassuring and can be as simple as a special wave, hug, or a kiss goodbye. Tell your child you are leaving but will return. Do not stall or make it a bigger deal than it is. Staff are here to help make the morning transition smooth.
